The Mastery Of Love - Book Review

I finally finished!  Started reading this book for the second time last summer but only finished it a few days ago.  I purchased the set of three books by Don Miguel Riuz in 2009 and read the first one, The Four Agreements, right away.  Cannot believe it took me so long to read this gem.

Don Miguel Riuz has given the best explanation and analogies of how we get and accumulate emotional hurts.  Simple and easy to understand, his wise words  give the reader a new perspective of how we get the "emotional parasites" and how we transfer the "parasites" to those around us.  He teaches us that with awareness, we can decided to choose the "track of fear" or the "track of love".  He also reiterated what we know as Christians - "It is not your reasoning mind that controls your power; it is what you believe" he writes in the chapter God Within You, "whatever we believe rules our existence, rules our life."

The author also give us a new insight as to our responsibility within all of our relationships.  The truth is no one is responsible for how anybody feels, but we are responsible for how we respond to others who are hurting.  My take away is that the ultimate goal for each person on this journey that is life on earth is to get rid of our "emotional parasites", heal our wounds and become whole.  The closer we get to wholeness the less reactive we become and the more responsive we become to our fellow human beings.  Only then, can we really learn to love unconditionally.

There is a lovely prayer at the end of the book, one that I plan to repeat daily for a long, long time.

Blessings,
